About the Author
Mario Asselin has served as an instructor at the Royal Military College of Canada's Mechanical Engineering Department since 1995. Before this he was a project manager for the integration of the Ground Collision Avoidance System. His experience also includes working on the CF188 as Avionics and Armament Project Officer, the Microwave Landing System, and the NAVSTAR/Global Positioning System. Mr. Asselin received his baccalaureate in Engineering in 1988 from the Royal Military College of Canada a nd a subsequent Master degree in Applied Science. He has authored many publications including the study guide, "Modern Aerodynamic Series--Aircraft Performance," and a technical paper on "Numerical Simulation of Ice Formation on Aircraft Wing in Flight."

A start for every aeronautics engineer student

This book is really a good reference for understanding the basics of aeronautics. It covers everything from aerodynamics to flight dynamics, stability and control, etc... Basically, after you read the book, you can know only a few parameters of a particular aircraft and then be able to deduct its aerodynamic characteristics, its optimal speed for maximal range, its flight ceiling, etc...
With the information that an aircraft manufacturer gives on its typical web page and the information contained in this book you can calculate enough to have a really good idea of a particular aircraft performance.
Plus, the book is clear and easy to read. I recommend it to every aeronautics student.

superb commentary

Rarely do I read a commentary that provokes my thinking and provides insight in the way this commentary has. The author not only has a mastery of the material in Deuteronomy better than any other commentary I have on the book, but he also shows its application to people under the New Covenant and nations in general. I have grown in my understanding not only of Deuteronomy but the Mosaic Law as a whole through reading this book. I heartily recommend it.

An easy worthwhile read

This book came as a pleasant surprise for my personal study in Deuteronomy. Christopher Wright is an excellent writer and gives an engaging and thought-provoking exposition of the book. There are some helpful discussions throughout on the "ethics" of difficult issues, a number of helpful tie-ins with other Old Testament passages, and even a little application (without becoming overly "preachy"). The book is definitely targeted towards the layman / low-level preacher. It requires no knowledge of Hebrew, so it should be an easy read for those not trained in the languages. The book is solidly conservative and doesn't waste time getting bogged down in the mess of critical issues surrounding the book. Overall, while this was not my last stop in the study of Deuteronomy, it was certainly helpful in getting a "big picture" understanding of the text. I particularly enjoyed his handling of the speech in chapters 4-11, and his presentation of the flow of thought throughout those chapters.

The biggest downside to this book (and the reason for only four stars) is the "thinness" of the book in some places. As with other books in this series, this commentary is rather brief. Those looking for a more exhaustive in-depth study will need another book to read along with this. Most of the finer exegetical points are relegated to the footnotes. Some chapters only get five pages of material at best, (especially in the Law code section of chapters 12-26). Worse, the section on blessings and curses (chapter 28) gets a measly three and a half page summary, which overviews the chapter, but never really comments on specific features of the text. (There weren't even footnotes in that chapter!). This naturally leaves the reader wishing for more. For what this book is trying to do, it does it well. However, for those trying to really dig into the text, this book will need to supplement or be supplemented.

This is an excellent resource on the book of Deuteronomy. It is very detailed and relatively easy to read. I would highly suggest it. As always, you must purge out certain items that you will not agree with. Ultimately, however, you will find the book to be an excellent commentary.

Save Your Money

I truly love medical textbooks and am sorry to have to rate this one so poorly - I would actually give it no stars if I could. The authors of this text may be experts in their field and have all kinds of insight and useful information to share about ECMO and ECMO management. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing that because the book is so poorly written. It's not simply an issue of substandard grammar and random punctuation errors (although those both abound) -- the writing is so atrocious that about 30-40% of it is just incomprehensible. Here is the fundamental problem: the book has been written in English by those for whom English is not their first language. While I'm not suggesting that this should have precluded the authors from writing the text at all, I do believe that the authors were remiss in not enlisting the services of someone - ANYONE - with a command of Medical English to edit and revise their work prior to publication. This text needs a major revision. Until that happens, save your money.

Extremely disapointing!!!

I m very disapointed about this book. I m a beginner at ECMO stuff and already point out several gaps in some of the chapters, the book does not make reference to experienced centers in the US, like Cleveland, for instance. Editorial mistakes are frequent, some paragraphs simply do not make sense! Don t be mislead by the ESLO logo in the frontpage

The book needs quite a lot of revision!!!

Totally agree with others' comment that the book is really not written up to standard, I cannot comment on the information as there are not many books for ECMO in the market, but the style and content arrangement is really bad. Most chapters are not detail enough, just like brief information articles for layman, content are repeated (by different authors in different chapters), yet the infromation are not quite consistent, index is so simple and unprofessional...... just like putting all handouts from different authors into a book without editing. Hope the editor can do some works on the second edition....

Pretty good reference

This is a good addition to any 1st Edition AD&D library, particularly any one that is going to be set on a fantasy Earth. The book presents a number of well-known real mythoi (even if they are somewhat changed from their historical underpinnings for ease of gameplay -- but Schick and Kuntz do provide an extensive bibliography for the source material) including lesser-known pantheons such as the Native American and Finnish gods. There is even a section for King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table (following Mallory's Morte d'Arthur, and not the post-Roman noble he probably was, but that's just a nitpick). Monsters and other heroes conected with the deities are also included.

But the most legendary point of the book is, of course, official AD&D stats for Cthulhu and others in the Lovecraft mythos -- and they are bruisers.

Don't let the deities' stat blocks fool you into thinking the gods are there like other monsters -- for the purpose of "kill it and take its stuff." These gods are GODS -- they have stats only to be used "if absolutely necessary." Any of these deities could reasonably be expected to kill a PC of almost any level within a round or two (and some, like Cthulhu, could even make short work of some of the toughest critters from the Monster Manual such as Demogorgon or Orcus). Use them sparingly as direct combat opponents (although sending Cthulhu [400 HP, 30 attacks (you read that right) of a damage level I don't recall, but obscenely high] against a "full of itself, 'let's rip the moustache off the king and raid his treasury'" party might just knock some sense into them ), instead trying to use them as either patrons or prime movers -- The PCs probably would never face Loki or Izumo, but might be fighting fire giants or Ogre Magi/Oni that the gods are directing.

One thing -- make sure to look carefully at the product description. If you want just any copy, any edition of this book (or the identical-but-for-a-different-cover-and-title Legends and Lore) are extremely serviciable. But if you're a collector, or are looking to use the 1st Edition stats for the Cthulhu or Melinebone (sp?) mythoi, be sure the product description states that it is the first edition -- after that (and perhaps a second printing), TSR decided to take the stats out rather than have to give a "thank you" credit to Chaosium. However, some later printings have the "thank you" note without the stats (they hadn't gotten around to changing the plates) -- therefore get the first printing and you're assured of Lovecraftian goodness.

Not necessary, but still good to have

While this book doesn't serve much purpose in most campaigns, it's still a good book to get. The reason I say it doesn't serve much purpose is because most campaigns don't use our world's mythology as a basis for the gods.
On the other hand, it's a good book, because it let's a DM see exactly how he/she should write up gods he/she creates. It also is a good referance for learning who the gods are throughout mythology.

Kind of cold

I had real trouble with this book. I really love boss-secretary stories, but this one wasn't so great. Here is why:
The story starts out with the heroine, a secretary, thinking to herself that she likes her boss a lot, but there can never be anything between them. She also thinks about the fact that she almost kissed her boss once recently and it can't happen again. Next scene, the hero, her boss, drives by her as she is walking to work and stops and offers her a ride. She refuses because he is flirting with her. Then he says, well, I need to talk to you about work, so she thinks, OK, and gets in, but then he flirts again (the dynamic is strange).
After that, nothing more happens between them until, at the end of the day, presumably everyone is gone, and they start kissing in his office with the door unlocked. Then, with almost no buildup at all, wham, bam, they are having unprotected sex on the boss's desk.
I am not a prude, in fact, I really like sexy romances. But this did not feel sexy to me. It felt cold and callous. I didn't like or respect either of the partners of this unloving act.
Second big problem: after pages and pages of thinking and thinking at the beginning of the book, we get one little scene of action of the wham-bam sex. After that, we get more pages and pages of thinking about how messed up this sex was, she may be pregnant, he still misses his dead wife, and so on. The book doesn't get much better after that, more musing and hair-tearing angst.
So what would I want instead? First, more action, less thinking (it gets boring having the story told to you through thinking). Second, let the hero and heroine feel something for each other besides lust before they jump on each other, like respect and even friendship. Third, a less depressed and frozen hero, a less fearful and anxious heroine--they both come off like they need counseling.

SEXY!!!!

Lila Maxwell is falling in love with her gorgeous boss Nicholas Camden. In the midst of a possible hostile takeover at Colette Inc their passion explodes on the executive desk.

Lila's love & devotion for Nick are true but Nick's issues from his past prevents him from having a committed & lasting relationship now....regardless of how much he desperately desires Lila.

What a sexy story! The passion & conflict between this couple makes for a fantastic page turner. It is the second book
in a mini series 20 Amber Court which I found very satisfying.

Steamy! -- Highly recommended

Two years ago, Nicholas Caden's wife died from cancer. Their relationship had never contained the kind of passion that curled his toes anyway, so his vow to never marry again seems logical. Nick throws himself into his work, instead, devoting long hours to making Colette, Inc. a success. But now the company risks a hostile takeover, and he risks unemployment. Suddenly the only thing in his world that feels solid is his administrative assistant Lila Maxwell. Even if he's not a forever kind of guy, Lila offers life, and he wants to share it, if only for a while.
Lila left behind sunny Florida for Indiana for a chance to start over, without rumor dogging her every move. She has a wonderful apartment at Amber Court, a job she loves, and a boss to die for. But when Nick suddenly begins to look at her as if she's a scrumptious dessert, and her job is threatened by the take over, life becomes very unstable. A steamy encounter of Nick's desk leaves her reeling with emotional intensity of their lovemaking and a possible pregnancy. Now she wants to be the one to teach him to trust his heart. But the question remains as to the damage she may receive to her own heart.
I admit to being a bit torn about reviewing SOME KIND OF INCREDIBLE, simply because this is the era of political correctness. Most corporations forbid relationships between a VP and his administrative assistant simply because he's the boss and holds unfair advantage over his employee. Fears of sexual harassment lawsuits rule our era. Indeed, at one point the hero briefly entertains and rejects the impulse to fire his admin simply to make his life simpler after he's incurred incredible emotional complications. Furthermore, the heroine worries throughout the book about her reputation if anyone learns she's dating the boss. Nevertheless, this is the substance of genre fiction, and fantasy shouldn't be ruled out because it is politically incorrect. And author Katherine Garbera is a master of the forbidden encounter on company property, as she demonstrates in SOME KIND OF INCREDIBLE. Highly recommended.
